说起兵马俑，我相信大家都是十分清楚的，兵马俑的发现被誉为是“世界第八大奇迹”，而后更是吸引了无数国内外游客来旅游参观，无一人不对兵马俑的宏伟感到惊叹！

东周王城遗址位于河南洛阳，当时的东周王城遗址是古代非常重要的城址，这里是文化、经济、军事等方面的中心地带，所以它的发现对于我们后人来说能让我们了解到许多的东周历史。
其实早在20世纪50年代初的时候，我们中国科学院的考古队就在这里洛阳这边进行了考古发掘工作，结果是探测出了东周时期的文化堆积，当时率先发现的是汉河南县城遗址，其实这座汉河南县城遗址和东周王城遗址还是有着千丝万缕的关系的，就是因为它的发现，才让我们中科院考古队确认洛河以北就是东周王城遗址。
之后关于东周王城遗址的考古发掘行动就陆续开启了，第一次对东周王城遗址开始考古发掘是在1957年，当时中科院的考古队在小屯村东北的确发现了5座大型战国墓葬，其中1号墓葬的规制非常的庞大，而且结构更是前所未见，属于那种长斜坡墓道，另外墓墙还刻画了大量的彩绘，还发现了“天子”的痕迹，不用说这1号墓的主人绝对身份极其的显赫。
而在另外的4号墓地中挖出了1000多件文物，接下来的考古工作中，考古队更是出土了许多的珍贵文物，比如有“王作宝尊彝”铭文的青铜器、透雕龙虎大玉璧、错金银狩猎纹铜镜、“繁阳之金”铭剑等等，这些文物的制作工艺都堪称是非常出彩，极其的具有艺术价值。
2001年，洛阳市文物局的考古队再次针对东周王城遗址进行了考古发掘，而且还连续出土了两件非常有价值的青铜器，而且都刻有有“王作宝尊彝”的铭文，专家说价值非常巨大。
而最令考古专家感到兴奋的无疑是2002年的考古挖掘行动，当时洛阳为了建设东周王城广场，为此就提前让考古队开始勘探，看看有没有古墓的痕迹，没想到却因此发现了震惊世界的“天子驾六” 。
“天子驾六” 是什么？“天子驾六” 其实就是古代的一种礼制行为，它代表的是皇帝级别的六匹马拉的两辆马车。当时“天子驾六” 的发现真的是非常令人兴奋的，而且专家发现出土的“天子驾六” 保存的非常完好，规模也是极其的宏大，绝对的世界唯一！
而这一次的考古挖掘共计发现了18座车马坑，古墓的数量更是多达397座，为此才有了后来考古专家们说的发现了中国第二个“兵马俑”的说法了，因为近50年来的洛阳考古中，也没有2002年发现的古墓数量这么多啊。
后来周王城天子驾六博物馆更是开馆迎接游客了，而东周王城遗址更是被国家列为了国家“十二五”重点保护的150处大遗址保护项目库！
